“The Great War” – World War I

WWII Hall of Fame

These pictures of area WWII veterans come to us from a scrapbook titled Girls and Boys in Service 1940 – 1944. Compiled by Franklin Lakes resident Marie Storrer, the mother of Jim and George Storrer, each photo is mounted on a black page with the name and date that each young man or woman entered service lovingly hand-noted in white ink below each photograph. Marie not only collected the pictures, but also wrote to the servicemen and women.

We are grateful that Marie kept the photo album, and feel fortunate that it found its way into the hands of Paulette Ramsey of the Franklin Lakes Historical Society who allowed us access to the photographs. In addition to being posted on this website, the photos are also on display at VFW Post 5702.

VFW Post 5702 is proud of all Americans who served and are serving their country as members of the military. Since the service area for Post 5702 is designated as Franklin Lakes and Oakland, we feel a special kinship for veterans who grew up or live in those two communities. That affinity for area veterans is evident in this section of our website.

There is an old saying that a picture is worth a thousand words. We encourage you to take a few moments to study the photos and reflect on the impressions the photos create.

If one of your relatives was an area resident who served in WWII, please visit our website ( www.VFWPost5702.org ) for contact information. We would like to include his or her picture in our WWII Hall Of Fame.
