On January 19, 2006, students from the Franklin Avenue Middle School had a luncheon at the Post. The purpose for the gathering was for them to meet SFC Reggie Butler, United States Army. For a year, the students who belong to PLC, wrote to SFC Butler and the members of his platoon. The platoon was part of the 1 st Cav, serving in Iraq. Reggie and the students spent several hours together and had a wonderful time.

SFC Butler is currently stationed at the United States Military Academy, West Point,

as a TAC NCO. During this event, the PLC also made a $200.00 donation to the VFW posts 2007/20068 projects. The students raised the money through bake sales. VFW 5702 is raising money for the Wounded Warrior Project and the Fisher House Foundation.
