The Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States is a veterans and community service organization with membership limited to veterans who served in specific wars or campaigns.
Post 5702 in Franklin Lakes, NJ is a local chapter of the VFW, and our support for veterans' issues is evident in: Post 5702's backing of National VFW initiatives
Visits to the Veterans Nursing Home in nearby Paramus, dinners for those same veterans held at our Post, and sponsorship of Big Money Bingo Games for those veterans several times each year
Decorating graves of departed comrades with American Flags
Sending packages to members of the military currently serving in combat zones
Assisting wounded veterans through support of Fisher House and the Wounded Warrior Project
Our Post is also a community resource where:
Civic and community groups meet
Patriotic activities in the form of a parade and ceremony related to Memorial Day are conducted
Veterans Day ceremonies , displays related to local history, and other educational activities are held
Support for the development of American ideals by awarding monetary prizes is accomplished
• through the Voice of Democracy Essay Contest to students in both Ramapo and Indian Hills High Schools
• through the Patriot's Pen Essay Contest to students in Valley Middle School in Oakland and the Franklin Avenue Middle School in Franklin Lakes
• through the VFW National Citizenship Education Teacher Award program that identifies and recognizes America's best educators who instill a sense of national pride in students
• by presenting Citizenship Awards to students in local middle schools
• by recognizing Scouts who have attained Eagle or Gold Award status
Car Shows and other community oriented activities are held Our many activities are funded in part by the rental of our hall for private gatherings. The ample parking lot, full kitchen, and well-maintained facility make VFW Post 5702 an excellent place to host your party or meeting.
