Scouts at Post 5702

On the afternoon of Friday, December 14, 2007, Post 5702 was host to 3 Packs of local boy scouts. Approximately 20 young men were accompanied by friends and parents. Louise Riccobene represented Packs 34 and 234, and Barbara Wallace was present on behalf of Pack 134.

After introductions and orientation, two Scouts led everyone in The Pledge of Allegiance. The first activity planned by Post 5702 Adjutant, Doug Neralich, required the Scouts participate in a Fact Scavenger Hunt. The Scouts explored and examined the many exhibits maintained at Post 5702, and the activity served as an introduction to local history.

Since helmets, uniforms, and many other military items are often interesting to young people, the Scouts were given a demonstration involving those items. During the demonstration, some members of the Packs “volunteered” to try on some helmets and uniforms.

The final activity gave the Scouts a “taste” of military cuisine. They were each issued an MRE style “snack pack” containing pretzels.

The Scouts seemed to enjoy themselves, and we look forward them visiting Post 5702 again. Many thanks are extended to the Scouts, parents, Louise Riccobene, and Commander Vreeland for the success of the visit.

If anyone would like to donate to our 2007/2008 projects it would be very helpful. This year we are raising money for the Fisher House Foundation at Walter Reed Hospital and for The Wounded Warrior Project.
